Essential Skills Masterclass for Team Leaders and Supervisors

This one-day session is ideal for:

• Those in a team-leading role eg Team Leaders, Supervisors
• Those identified with the potential to become team leaders and managers of the future
• Those with team-leading/supervisory experience but no formal training
• Those aspiring to be team leaders, supervisors and managers

Course duration: 9.30 – 4.30 (Includes 1 x 30 minute break, 2 x 15 minute breaks)

Agenda

Morning Session

• Short introductions and opening quiz
• Understanding the typical Supervisory Management role. This will give an overview of what standards exist in the workplace for efficiency, health and safety, quality, wastage, hygiene and behaviour. We will look at why they exist, how they are created and who is responsible for ensuring they are achieved

Break

• Setting standards. Here we will look at how to set the standards created, how they are communicated and how supervisors ensure adherence through effective leadership, communication, monitoring and problem-solving.
• Training and Coaching. This will provide attendees with skills on how to train effectively, how to ensure learners have understood the training and how to coach this into each individual until competence is achieved.

Lunch

Afternoon Session

• Supervising performance. In this section we look at how supervisors can monitor performance against the standards set, clues that a performance issue may arise and how to keep a team motivated.
• Addressing performance issues. Here we look at addressing performance issues through the ‘difficult conversation’ and deeper issues with motivating individuals and teams.

Break

• Building good working relationships. Here we look at the importance of understanding the ‘bigger picture’ and the importance of working effectively with other teams to achieve the standards and goals of the organisation.
• Managing yourself. In this final section, we look at ourselves, our strengths and weaknesses, golden rules of time management, self-discipline and continuing professional development.
• Recap and closing quiz
